The Name at the End of the Ladder

The Name at the End of the Ladder

By Elena De Roo

Retell:

September Tuesday is 12 years old, she is old enough to get her chosen name. She is hoping that she gets a driving adventure like name, unlike everyone else at her school who have boring botanical and tree names. When she meets her counselor she is unsure if she trusts him.

Relate:

  • In the story they mention the word 'gesture' a lot, and in class we were looking at the front cover of The Inaugural Celebrations of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. There was a lady who was gesturing to the sun.
  • There are lots of great similes and personification, last term we looked at these writing techniques.

Reflect:

Some questions I have for this book are:

  • Is it a strict city?
  • What does the city look like?
  • I wonder why your name is the month of your birthday before you get a proper name?

Review:

I like this book because the author uses a lot of descriptive language. I like how she uses interesting words to extend our knowledge of vocabulary.

I hope you like my review of this spectacular book if you have any feedback please comment down below what I can improve on.

  1. It sounds like an intriguing book, Claudia. I think I might have to borrow this book and read it myself. I look forward to your next instalment.

  3. Claudia I love how you related this book to the front cover of The Inaugural Celebrations of the Commonwealth of Australia. I am interested to know what name Tuesday gets too. I am not up to that part yet. I told Jasmine that her name would be Thursday September.
