Once By Morris Gleitzman

Once By Morris Gleitzman

Blurb:

Everybody deserves to have
something good in their life.
         At least once.

Prediction:

I think that this story will be about how a Jewish boy who flees away to find his parents, but on the way he finds the Nazis and gets into more trouble.

Summary:

So far I have read that this boy has lived in an orphanage run by nuns and has been there for 3 years and 8 months the year is 1942. He has found a whole carrot in his soup and thinks it is a message from his parents which are Jewish booksellers and have left him there to be safe from the Nazis. He plans to flee from the orphanage and find his parents.

Where there's smoke

My expreance for this book is amazing i like this book because of the drama in it.
All this drama makes me stuck and confuerd.
here is A picsure of the book the link is on google.com

This book is A confusing one i am still reading from chapter 8 and from there it is so close to the end but from there it still a very teen and young adalt book for like a from a drama into a firefighting show I give this a 4-5 for overall transition.

Now here with quaty i will give a 3-5 for the down right dull because there is no pictures in it and that the writeing is not up to date with Nanbrey and crows contry (this was my book last term)
now for writeing style and this finaly is a 5-5 for the writeing is so superb in a way that no way that anyone can beat them.

Peter's I.Poem

The Goldseekers

The Goldseekers Summarising and Synthesising By Sophia Fenech

This book is about a nine year old girl called Miju and her bother Chung-Kai were kidnapped and taken away from their parents and now living in fear. They found themselves at a gold mine in Melbourne so they are struggling to work for money to try to get back with heir parents again.

Miju and Chung-Kai are on a mission to find another goldmine. On the way they meet up with an old friend of theirs and he gives Miju a little puppy called Ah-poo they find a cave to sleep in for the night and set off. In the morning they realise that they don't need Ah-poo any more so they give it back to their trusted friend.

Later their friend finds that Ah-poo has flakes of gold in his fur and he thinks that he could be rich  but he thought that he must of  got the  gold from the cave. It was too greedy so he didn't and just decided with an old man who owned a shop nearby.
That is what the text is mainly about.

The Authors most important ideas were that they Miju and Chung-Kai are in a goldmine to get money to find their parents again.

REVIEW I thought that one page had a really good metaphor  which was the night begins to spread its dark wings

I really liked how the author had Miju and Chung-Kai say hello in a different language which was Chinese because if you speak in this language you can have the chance to say "I know what that means."

The Name at the End of the Ladder

The Name at the End of the Ladder

Retell

In the last four chapters September started to turn to gold because the name she got at her second appointment meant gold but a trader helped her out and she stopped turning gold. Also thanks to her school library she figured out that the combination she needed for the lock on the ladder at square one had nothing to do with maths and that the answer had something to do with the alphabetical order of the numbers. Because August's name gave him the powers of a magician he was able to roll the number he wanted so that he would land on September's square so she would be sent back to square on and she would be able to open the lock and climb up to square 100. Although the riddle she had to figure out was different she unlocked it, climbed up to square 100 and chose her name which freed everyone that had been trapped in the game. September's dad and the citizens tried to save their children and they succedded. It turned out in the end September chose the name September Tuesday (which was her old name) and August chose the name Oak after seeing September's dad Oak in action.

The Name at The End of The Ladder

Retell:
September Tuesday is a girl getting her name changed.Counsellor Garlic has given
her the name "Camellia" but after the appointment she wins a "competition" and her prize
is getting sucked into a game. Then she has to use the names she get's from the game and
get their side effects. Her first name from the game is "Melissa which gives her honey craving's,mind reading and buzzing.

When she gets out of the game she meets a boy called August who is going through the
same thing as her. Then they have to get through the side effects of their new names.
Now September has received a new name which is "Aurelia" which is turning her into
to GOLD!!!What will she do?We'll have to read on to find out.

Wonder 2 J S

                                             Wonder

Lately in Wonder August has ended up going to school and so far he is enjoying his time at school. He met a girl named summer at the lunch table they sat at, during lunch they decided that the table they sat at was the summer table and only people with summer names can sit there. But before  he met her he was scared of school but now he likes  school.

I am reading a book at the moment called how to train your dragon and in it the main character  is very weird as well. I feel both of there pain because there both have no friends for the start of the book and when I went to school I thought I had no friends. Then I met my best friend and that's what happened to August and Hiccup (the main character in how to train your dragon.

I think that the author likes names from the year because there are many summer names like  August and summer. I wonder why she likes summer names so much maybe she was born in summer?

I think that wonder is a is a unpredictable book and I can't wait to read on to see what happens, so I would give Wonder a 7 out of 10.

                                                               REVIEW
I like how the author starts the story again in another persons point of view, not just August's. it has helped me to realise that people always have different opinions about things no matter what the circumstances are.

Wonder Book Review 2 - Blake

Wonder

By R. J. Palacio

Retell

August finally started school and his homeroom teacher gave him a folder to do some work in. Everyone was staring at him as he wasn't looking, but when he turned to face them, they all just stared down at their tables. August felt very nervous and was mumbling every word that came out of his mouth until the teacher asked him to speak a bit louder and clearer.

Relate

I can feel how nervous August is because I have experienced being nervous and mumbling, I have also been asked to speak up by the teacher, so I can relate to August's situation at the moment. In the book, August unlocks his lock quicker than the person sitting next to him; I have unlocked a lock quicker than a few other people.

Reflect

Some people in my group think that this book doesn't have much action, I have to admit, I don't think that it does either, but it doesn't mean that I don't like the book. My prediction is that most of the action will come later in the book, I can't wait to read it!!!

Review

I think that by this time, throughout the book the author needed to have described a little bit of August's face, or maybe (hopefully) the author will describe him fully. I noticed that there was a pattern most of the way throughout the book; most of the chapters go for 2 - 5 pages, but I think that the amount of pages in each chapter just keeps getting larger as you go further into the book.

So far I am giving this book a rate of 2 out of 5!!!

WONDER.......

  WONDER.......

by Cassandra Wijaya

During this term, our purple literacy group in 5ST, has been reading an interesting and stimulating book called WONDER by R . J. Palacio.

RETELL:

This book is about a boy named August who is not an ordinary ten years old. August has an older sister named Via. August does do ordinary things but he is unique. You probably wondering what's so unique about August? Well I guess you would know, if you were being stared at and seeing little kids screaming and running away from you. You might guess it, the unique thing about him is his face. He does not look like you or me, his face looks a little strange.

His parents are always trying to protect him but they still want him to go to school. August never goes to school as he is always home schooled by his mum. The reason he doesn't want to go to school is because he feels uncomfortable with his face and is scared that some kids will judge him. He has two or three surgeries per year because he has some small anomalies on his face since he was born.

August's world feels like coming to an end when he has to go to school, until he meets the Principal Mr. Tushman.

RELATE:
 T - S - T - T

As August is scared about his looks he does not want to go to school. I can imagine that he is embarrassed. I have seen a movie where this girl also refuses to go to school because of her spiky hair.

I can relate to this when my face had a sunburn after swimming on the weekend, I was terrified to go to school on Monday and was begging my Mum to stay home or home schooled. Of course, she didn't agree with me & I still had to go to school that day.

REFLECT:
My reflection is why is the book called "Wonder"? Maybe because it makes us wonder what exactly August looks like or how August might wonder how he would feel if he went to school a long time ago instead of being home schooled.

REVIEW:

I like the book a lot because it's funny and entertaining, especially when the dad makes jokes of the Principle named Mr. Tushman. This book touches my heart that I learn not to judge people from their outside appearances. Just like we are not to judge the book by its cover.  What's truly important is the inside or personality of the person. Beauty comes from within.
